Volunteering: Teaching Young Children English
After retiring from teaching, I wanted to feel useful and utilize my English teaching skills, so from May 2025, I started teaching 2 to 5 year-olds English once a month. My assistants are my wife and daughter, who happens to be a preschool teacher.
The kids do a lot of activities while learning English. We sing songs, dance, and make crafts. The kids lead the ABC time with different kids pointing at the alphabet letters.
When the kids are making crafts, I talk with the parents in English about the class’s theme. Some themes have been Halloween, Christmas, the weather, the ocean, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It is fun to interact with the children and their parents!
